Well, basically a colleague of mine is offering me his HD 5850:

http://i57.tinypic.com/2v99gkh.png (screenshot GPU-Z)

He is willing to sell it for USD 150 (1300 pesos Argentinos - Argentina's currency).

For reference, I could get a:

MSI GAMING N750Ti TF 2GD5/OC G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127783

For what would be USD 335 (2800 pesos argentinos).

I'm on a really tight budget right now... I'm referencing a GTX 750 Ti because it seems it can be compared with the 5850... But I'm tempted to buy the Radeon...

Could you advise if it's worth it to spend the money on the 5850 ? Would it fit my needs ? Or I should REALLY try to get something like a GTX 750 Ti?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,

It seems I can get this one:

SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100364VXL Radeon R9 270X 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support OC WITH BOOST Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202059

For like USD 365... Seems like a good option.

There is a myth that ATI has problems with their drivers... which cause all kind of render issues on games... is it true? are Nvidia drivers more stable / reliable?

Is the 5850 out the question?

Thanks again, can you tell me if the power supply I'm mentioning would support the r9 ?
My i3 supposedly only consumes 55 watts and I only have a caviar blue HD and a DVD rw which I don't really use at all

if you can get that 270 then get it. 750Ti competes more with 260X (to exact 750Ti sits between 260X and 265) although it is the fastest card currently available that doesn't need extra power from power supply. your current power supply will easily power 270. as for the drivers i don't think there is any serious problem with it.

Just one more thing, do you think my ram (4 GB) would cause a bottleneck on games like the ones on my first post ? I can get a cheap kingston 2gb stick .... If I will upgrade like this it would be a shame to bottleneck such a good card don't you think ?

double check those game minium requirement for RAM. i think apart from Shadow of Mordor and Assassin Creed 4 4GB will be enough on those game. anyway is that 4GB a single stick or two stick 2GB?

4gb is enough, a 2gb stick extra can help in some games you listed, so the extra 2gb stick will be a good option, but if you can, try to buy a second stick of exactly the same ram as you already have, because then it will run in dual channel mode. (but it is more expensive because that is a 4gb stick)
