FX 8350 with R9 290 Low FPS

Hi,

I`ve already searched a lot of threads here and never found a solution that fits me, simply because I don`t match any of those circunstances previously listed.

My specs:
FX 8350 running on stock
Sapphire TRI-X OC R9 290 also on stock
Corsair TX 750w (This one is a little bit old)
Kingston HyperX 8gb (2x4gb) Elpida
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
OCZ Agility 3 120gb SSD
WD Velociraptor 500GB

My GPU is not using less than 60% nor heating more than 85 Celsius.
My CPU is on normal temps and running at normal usage.
My Ram is not overclocked, but I can`t set it more than 1033 at BIOS settings cause if so, the PC charges but gives me black screen and no video feedback.
My Ram sticks are on the correct slots and I`ve already tried changing them or simply using 1 stick.
I`ve updated my BIOS to the latest one, GPU Drivers and AMD CPU Hotfixes too.

Does anyone have an insight about what could possibly be happenning.

I`m not talking about low fps on specific games. I can run Dota 2 and CS:GO for like 130+ fps.
But games like CoD: Advanced Warfare, Lichdom: Battlemage, The Witcher 2, TERA, Watch Dogs, FarCry 3 and FarCry 4, are simply unplayable. Even if I disable everything, leave everything at low/very low or disabled, I get like 10 fps improv...

Does anyone have an insight abut what could be possibly happenning?

Their office is in Hong Kong not sure if they still have a U.S phone line but their support email is tech@althonmicro.com or You might be able to try the overseas one toll free not 100% if they have English speaking representatives though

thats a optimisation issue

the game developers havent optimised it well

amd have released drivers that will fix this issues.. download the 14.11.2 beta drivers.. it might help you

also new catalyst omega drivers are rumored to be released on monday that is gonna fix a lot of optimisations.. good luck

I`ve tested like a lot of games and I`m far away from being at least near the FPS showed in every review.
The game`s I`ve tested covers from NVIDIA based games and AMD based games. Relativelly old games, fresh new games.

I also tested old drivers and beta drivers.

Nothing I do show some progress

as i said earlier.. wait till monday for the omega drivers.. install them and report if it fixes the issue

You mean in the game, right? I don`t think that there is an option for that at CCC.

I did play games that had no PhysX Support tho

I do suggest the following. Uninstall Catalyst drivers, and use Treexy Driver Fusion and clean residual AMD drivers from Your graphics card. Restart the system and let it install system VGA driver. Now install the latest [even beta] Catalyst.

Another one, Sapphire TRI-X OC R9 290 uses 6 + 8 pin in order of being powered up. Can You try one different rail? TX is an excellent PSU. No worries in there. Please take care of the "click" when You're connecting the PSU.

By all means, can You post here screenshot from Crystal Disk Info, and can You run one wall MemTest? This is prophylactic, so we're on the safe side here.

And others, do You use 8 pin for CPU rail, or only 4 pin? Do You also power EZ-Plug? [it's for 3 way crossfire, still...I'm asking].

Actually my CPU is using a Seidon 240M. So my temp for the CPU hits 50 Celsius on peak.
My GPU hits 86 on full load.

Not really quite to sure what else it could be, I use windows 7 and have a somewhat similar build for my AMD rig and also have played similar games on it without any real issues.

That's what I use with non beta drivers or anything and b4 and a lot of other FPS work just fine, mostly built for my wife but I use it when I want to test games on an AMD platform. The only other thing I could think of is try enabling the cores from msconfig>Boot>Advaned Options> Number of processors> Select 8 and then reboot. Also try disabling the fallowing in bios

AMD Application Power Management Disabled

disable any power saving mode settings in windows

Try using any easy overclocking utilities in your bios to override any power saving settings which may or may not work.

Latest Firmware ? OCZ Agility 3s with SF-2000 controllers are known PITAs. Were these drives used when you built your rig?

What chew talkin' about, Willis? That's an odd speed. Are you running an XMP profile? Manually set speeds? What is the stock speed/timings of your RAMs? Are they on the Asus QVL list?

I will do that clean install using Treexy Driver Fusion, thanks for the advice.
I`m pretty sure the pins are connected trustfully, but i`ll try using different connectors.

I`ll have do download and do the tests once again, but once I`m home I will post it here.

I`ve updated Agility`s firmware like 2 years ago. Maybe need to re-do.

Actually I don`t know if I`m running it. Speed is set automatically because if I lower or raise the Ram Ghz to 1600, 1866, 2133, the PC won`t start at all. I mean, there will be power, the coolers and the led lights will come up but no video feedback will be given. So I`ll need to press that BIOS flashback button to reset it.

Stock speed/timings are 2133Ghz 9-11-9-27-2T. What`s Asus QVL list, sorry bout the noobness

I`ve had a GTX 670 before that R9 and the card was slightly better at gaming

could you change your psu with a spare one and see if it fixes the issue?

If nothing works just try to contact sapphire not AMD and see if they have any information for you, I remember back in like 2012 I was having issues with a new card and a few games and they just said do this and this in the bios then let us send you this non official patch and this .dll for this one game and it worked. They just send you a one time use or ('Token') URL that gives you the download.
