how to upgrade alienware x51 processor

I am planning on getting an alienware x51 this year. I was getting the configuration which includes the Intel Core i3 processor. I wanted to know if I am able to buy a separate i5 processor and install it into the x51.

Depends on the board and how easy it is to install. Some are just normal sockets and some most noticeably dell ( the people that make alienwares) use proprietary stuff whenever it comes to their computers. I would recommend building it yourself, but if you don't have the heart to do it, then the worst that happens is that you are stuck with a I3
