Horrible performance in SLI.

A little background info first. My motherboard is literally one day old, and so is my Windows 8.1 install. I had to upgrade to a mobo with SLI support.

I finally got my second GTX 970 in today and eagerly threw it into my rig. The install went without a hitch, I found the SLI settings in Nvidia control panel and then turned them on.

First thing I did was set up all my MSI afterburner info and fan profiles up and then fired up the Unigine Heaven benchmark. This is what I got:

I was very happy. Nearly a 100% increase in performance. I then went and tried Far Cry 4 and saw FPS between 19 and 21. At first I thought maybe SLI wasn't working so I set up the SLI watermark/green bar to make sure that it was working. Sure enough it was working as intended. Now, I was getting pretty low performance in Far Cry 4 before I went SLI anyway so I just chocked it up to another Ubishit title.

Next I tried Saints Row 3. Yesterday I was getting 60-90 FPS and now I am getting less than 30. The SLI watermark is also visible in game. I'm also getting bad performance in Saints row 4 but it's hard to be scientific there because the performance before SLI was terrible as well.

In DMC: Devil may cry I am seeing over 240 FPS. It's the first game I've seen so far that seems to be working as intended.

Why am I seeing such weird performance?

Here are my specs:

* GTX 970 SLI
* FX 8350 @ 4 Ghz with hyper evo 212+
* ASus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 (1 day old with all drivers installed)
* 950 Watt PSU
* Windows 8.1 (1 day old)
* 120 GB SSD
* 1 TB HDD

I have a very similar setup to you with a fx8350 running at 4.5ghz on water, same motherboard but im running dual gtx770s and im having the same issue, in synthetic benchmarks everything works sweet, in games they all run significantly worse with 2 cards running.
