Hi Guys,

Im new to this forum.

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-NR110E with a 120GB, however the HDD started to fail so I started to replace it with a WDC 500gb, whats strange is that its when I start the Windows Installation it wont detect it even after I have installed the IRST drivers for the motherboard to detect it, it only detected my external boot drive where I have the image installed or any additional drive.

So after I was successfully able to install the Drivers, it did detect the WDC 500 however it shows somehow as "System Reserved" not and the Drive options are grayed out, the HDD was also formatted via CMD.

Any ideas?

Thanks in Advanced!

Yes, since it is a new HDD go ahead and format it NTFS; just one partition. After that reboot and go ahead with the Wi8 Pro installation. This will take a few hours. After you install Win 8 Pro, go to the 'Store' and from there install (free upgrade) Win 8.1 (about 5 hours).

Whats strange is that the BIOS does detects it as a 500 HDD, but in Windows after loading IRST SATA Drivers it detects it as "System Reserved" should I format it via Windows for it to be recognized?

I just tried that and its not being detected still, wont even show as "Unallocated space" however if I want to search for drivers it does recognize it as an actual HDD, I have formatted it as NTFS - Primary and marked it as Active.

Any ideas?

Actually not, It was actually downloaded from MSDN, what's strange is that I was able to install that same Image on another system of mine, which is my current desktop.

Well at last I gave up, and just did a standard re-Install on the 120GB, because it was a gift for my son.

But thanks for all the suggestions!
