no turbo core even when running prime95 in fx-6300

Hi all,

I have a fx-6300 running on msi 970A-g43, not overclocked. In bios, under overclock settings, the turbo core technology is turned on. Standard mode is selected from 3 of the main tabs (eco/standard/OC). Please note that i used the one click overclock once from bios just to check it, and loaded a saved profile from before the overclock.

When i run prime95 in windows7 64bit, the cpu-z reports a max of 3500MHz, and resource usage shows CPU is maxed out. When I run prime95 on linux 64bit (3.11), still /proc/cpuinfo shows a current speed of 3.5GHz (note: at idle it shows 1400MHz), again resource monitors showing CPU maxed out.

Does prime 95 never accelerate beyond advertised CPU power (hence not firing turbo core). If this is bios issue please tell me how to fix it, where to look.
Appreciate your help.

Have a nice day.

The turbo speed for a FX 6300 processor only works when or 1 core (4,1ghz) is working, or when 1 module (3,8ghz) is working. So when 3 cores or more are working the max speed of the fx 6300 is 3,5ghz.

My temps are around 48-50 C when running prime95. Please note that room temperature is 30C.
I guess temperature is not much of an issue then.

Yes. all six cores are pushing 3.5GHz according to resource meters. So when running turbo core, not all cores are working, am i correct?
But in a video on youtube about testing a fx-8320 on stock speeds, i saw cpu-z showing 4.1GHz when running prime95.

I reset the bios and still when prime 95 is running, all cores are 3.5GHz, nothing more.
Is there a simulator to push a single core to maximum (single threaded work load). So i can see what is actually happening, whether turbo core works or not.

Thanks.

Yeah, with that the core jumped to 3.8 - 4.1 GHz. :)
However, Even 10 minutes after prime95 test was exited, and there was no other load, the core stayed at 3.8GHz. Now that's scary.
