my PSU is corsair vs450(4 pin) and my mobo is arsrock m3a770de(8pin). i attached the the cable to the mobo and my rig is okay and running. I just discovered that my motherboard has 8pin(I bought my rig from a friend, he's the one who assembled it). is it okay or should i get a 4pin to 8pin connector or a new PSU? I'm worried that it may cause a problem in the future

An adapter would be the same essentially since you're not adding 4 more physical wires from the psu. Regardless of connector pin count, 4 wires is 4 wires and 8 wires is 8 wires. A new psu in the near future would be a good way to go.
