Hello. I was wondering if it was possible to get around a certain limitation with some of verizon prepaid phones which requires it to be on prepaid for 6 months and on it's network for a year by simply not purchasing a plan or purchasing a very small amount of data for a month and then just waiting out the other 5 months. Best Buy has a really good deal on a moto g for $70 right now and I wouldn't mind just using it as a android "ipod" device for 6 months and then just going over to a postpaid plan or even better go to PagePlus after the 12 month lock with verizon. It sucks that verizon is the only carrier I can get consistently out where I live as I am sure better offers are available with other carriers but I am basically limited to straight talk, PPC, or verizon. Would I have to have a prepaid plan for the 6 months required or could I just wait 6 months without purchasing verizon's overpriced prepaid plans or are there even better offer available on a mid to low range smart phone?

Solution
You can buy the phone and not register it, and use it over WiFi. In order to use it on another carrier, you will need to get the phone unlocked, and that needs the 6 months of payments.

If you want to end up on PagePlus, best to start with one of their phones.
