Hello!

I just built my first rig. Specs:
Mobo x99-UD4
i7 5820k
h100i water cooling
rosewell rbr1000m PSU
MSI GTX 970 gaming edition 4g ddr5
and
4 x 4gb Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB
along with an ssd to start

After some trouble getting it up and running, it's almost perfect. I haven't spent anytime overclocking or doing anything crazy yet, but in looking at my RAM in the BIOS and system monitor, its only showing three of the four sticks work. The Intel Tuning Utility lets me see the slots, and it appears its in slot 1-a that the ram is not working. I turned the PC off and changed the stick from the second slot for the 4 stick config, and swaped it. Now it is still showing that same memory slot does not have a RAM stick which makes me believe it's not the stick. I'm on BIOS F8 and I see there is F9 for this mobo. My only problem is its a bit tougher to upgrade since I'm using Windows 10 beta on the rig at the moment as I don't want to buy windows 8.1 for the third time just to use for six months and then upgrade again. Any advice on the stick other than update the bios?

In addition, I have the H100i water cooler. The software doesn't recognize the fans unit, but the fans spin, and playing Far Cry 4 for two hours CPU never got above 45 degrees. I've seen compatibility issues with Windows 8.1, so I presume that is what the problem is?

Any insight is much appreciated!

Solution
The RAM slot on the motherboard could be defective.
Take all of the RAM out and add one stick to a slot and run Memtest. Try different combinations to determine whether it is the stick or the slot that is bad.
