Hi all,

Would greatly appreciate any help with getting me started with building my first pc. Plan is for a higher end gaming pc in the budget range of £1000 to £1500.

I've thrown some items together below, however it is by no means a thought out list.

Ideally, any thoughts on indiviudal components and items I need to think about adding would be of great help.

I'd like to take my time about this and try to learn anything I can, as my knowledge of pc internals is limited.

Thanks in advance for any help.

(Also, apologies in advance for any ignornace and slow understanding :p)

Hi Tea Urchin,

Thanks for helping out and for your time. I'll bullet the points you raised below,

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/MkBt4D

Application - The build is to play new and upcoming games at stable high settings. I'm not however a massive pc gamer so I'm not looking for a large gaming system, but want something that will have longevity and still be able to play gamse in the future.

Monitor - Single monitor at the moment 1920x1080. I've not really posed myself the question of dual screens. As for actual brand and make of monitor I am not sure.

Power supply - Was a safety choice with the wattage. Changed to 650

Processor - I initially had the i5 4690k as a choice but went to i7 as longevity of the machines build came to mind and I had the space for it in the budget.

Motherboad - Could you add any more info on the choice of motherboard please. E.g things I should look out for

SSD - Changed this, thanks for the money saving tip :)

HDD - Increased to 1TB.

Ok, a little change up.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/t4yrWZ

Ram - I'll stick with 8gb then, I can always go higher should I ever need too.

Power Supply - I suppose if it doesnt harm anything then wouldn't a 750W be a wiser choice in the long run, should I ever need to upgrade?

GPU - This is again a choice that hasn't had much thought. I chose this as a recommended choice of card through some reading. Is there a card that suits the build better ? If not then as for changing (the "manufacturer" is it?) I can't seem to find Asus on the list for part picker.

Thanks again for your time.

No worries, thanks for the help so far.

Currently it looks like this http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/nv3QBm (fan is there just as a place holder)

Few questions I have atm

Monitor - Specific type or specifications that I should look for?

Other Items - Sound cards and network cards.

As far as budget goes - providing I'm not missing any items - I can spend a good £300 more if offers anything decent.

Network - The router is based next to my desk to which the pc will be placed. So I have easy access to an ethernet cable.

Monitor - Currently I don't have a monitor - been running with a laptop for quite some time due to a bit of travel in recent years.

I won't be a competitive player so the all-round screen will be perfect.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/ZJnB4D

Monitor - For an all rounder, the VS239HV you suggested looks great. As for the update you mentioned, I'm guessing leaving out the DVI reduces cost and HDMI will be more than suitable? May choose the larger screen in the end though.

Speakers - Have a set already, so that saves a few quid.

Overall, current build rests at ~£1300. Are there any specific items that are necessary that I haven't included that you can see? If i were to spend an extra £200, are there any changes you'd make personally.

Thanks again for all the help :).

From your latest build, only 2 things I'd change are the HDD and CPU Cooler to the ones below:

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Nepton 240M 76.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (£78.29 @ Scan.co.uk)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£39.99 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £118.28
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

CPU Cooler - Better cooling then the H100i, more newer and cheaper.
HDD - Seagate HDD's have a much higher rate of failure then Western Digital and less performance.

Ok cool,

Well i'll stick with the 23" you suggested first.

HDD - If £4 reduces failure risk then that's not a bad option to go for I suppose. Would be a pain losing some important items should it fail (then again, anything majorly important will be on the SSD)

Overall then I think that's it. I'll keep reading up on stuff before I start ordering and building.
Would you recommend any material to read up on for building, and is there any additional items i'll need to assist building?

Thanks Tea. Will definitely hold off from buying at the moment (not in a big rush to get it :p). As for the screen chosen, I couldn't see the HV on the list so i've picked that one just as a place holder. (I've added the HV to my amazon basket as a reminder).

Thanks a lot again, been a great help. Will send you a message if I get stuck and to say how it went.

(Also, thanks aks_1337 for chipping in)
