Hello everyone.
I am trying to install windows 8.1 (clean install) on a pre-installed windows 8 machine .
After following the setup guide , on selecting where windows 8.1 should be installed I get the following error : Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT Partition Style.
Name --Type
Drive 0 Partition 1 : SYSTEM -- System
Drive 0 Partition 2: Recovery  -- Recovery
Drive 0 Partition 3 -- MSR(Reserved)
Drive 0 Partition 4 : OS -- Primary
Drive 0 Partition 5 -- Recovery
Drive 0 Partition 6  -- Primary
Drive 0 Partition 7: Restore -- Recovery

So my questions are :
1.What are these partitions?
2.I have no windows 8 key on a label ( or sticker ) so I extracted it from my system using a script , so I would like to have the option to restore it to my factory default settings if something wrong happens.
The thing is that when I choose to install it on Drive 0 Partition 4 I get the error mentioned above (bold)
Would it be wise to delete these partitions and create new from scratch ? Would there be any recovery option ?

What is the best procedure I should follow?

Thank you in advance

Solution
The partitions that you have are pre-installed by the manufacturer.

I would say there is no harm in trying to delete everything and start fresh.

Repair
You can contact ASUS Support and book a repair under warranty should you need to restore. Serviceshop.asus.com also sell recovery media which will put the required partitions back onto the disk.

cheers
