I can't install Windows 8.1 64bit on my computer, all that comes up is an error message

I put in the WIndows 8.1 64bit disc in my computer and all that pops up is a little message saying,

"Your Installation Media cannot be used to install Windows. Your current version is 32-Bit and does not match the architecture of the 64-Bit installation media. Please insert the 32-Bit media and restart WIndows Setup".

So does this mean I uninstall 32-Bit to install 64-bit? If it is talking about hardware wise I know I have a x-64 based processer. Any ideas or solutions, cause I couldn't find any on the internet?

Solution

Install the disk in the drive
Reboot
Select and boot from the 64bit install disk

You cannot run the 64bit install from within a currently running 32bit OS. It will not work.
