Hey there!

I really need some help. So I was playing CoD Ghosts with my friend, and we were about to begin a private match. The loading bar in the bottom right of the screen, i noticed the 4 dots that are above the loading bar were extremely laggy, and the game wasn't loading. I had to go right after the game started loading, so I had to wait for the game to load so that I could leave. My computer was very laggy at this point, and eventually a mouse cursor showed up on the screen, the cursor that's the blue circle only. It was sometimes smooth, and sometimes very laggy moving the mouse. I also noticed my hard drive use light constantly on, not even flashing. I tried Ctrl + Alt + Delete, so that I would be able to open the task manager, but it took a long time for the menu to load. It first gave me a black screen, with a normal cursor, then I got a red screen with a cursor (red being my start menu colour) and then eventually the menu came up with a very laggy cursor. Then I clicked on the back button, and then CoD Ghosts went the white colour that a program would go if it stops responding. The white colour took a long time to come up, first a little bit, then a little bit more, etc. When it eventually came up, Windows told me that the process had stopped responding and asked me whether I wanted to end the process, instead of the normal message telling me the program stopped responding and I can close the program, or wait for it to respond. I clicked end process, which closed the game. I then saw that there was an iTunes update, and when I tried to close the window, it wouldn't. Also Skype was open ao I could talk to my friend, and skype wasn't responding either. My mouse was still very laggy, and when I managed to roll it over the task bar, nothing would give the normal effect to say that the cursor is over it, it just wasn't responding, but on a few frames the effect was shown. At the time, I had RealTemp open, and of course it was not changing the reading on the taskbar, but it said 38 degrees celcius. I usually have about 40 - 45 degrees celcius after leaving a game, so I think it may have been a reading from an earlier time. I also had Asus GPU Tweak open, which was monitoring my GPU. I had also used the program to change my fan speen from 20% to 50% before I opened the game. In the end, I had to turn off my computer by holding the power button, and then when I reached round to the back of my computer to turn it off at the power supply as well, I noticed itwas much warmer that usual. I haven't turned my computer back on yet, so I'm hoping that it's going to work. All this has never happened before, so I would like to know why and how I could stop it from happening again.

My system specs:

CPU...........: Intel Core i3 3240 3.4 GHz
CPU Cooler: Stock Intel Heatsink
GPU...........: Asus R7 260X DirectCU II OC
RAM...........: Corsair Vengeance LP 1600 MHz (however running at 1333 MHz due to my motherboard only supporting up to 1333 MHz RAM)
PSU............: ACE 650 W
HDD...........: Seagate Barracuda 500 GB

I also have a Corsair AF 120 fan mounted in the front of my case, and that's the only case - mounted fan.

I know it was a long post to read, so well done for getting this far!

Thanks for all your help!

I don't see how much ram you have, you mentioned the brand and MHz but not quantity ghost minimum needs 6. As far as your graphics card the required HD 5870 actually tests higher than your R7 260x so that could be another problem. As of late AMD has switched to R7 & R9 designations so it takes a bit of research to find what's better right off the bat. Here is the site that tested the 2.

I have 8 GB of RAM, sorry I forgot to put it in!
Also the game works fine when I get into the game, it was just very odd why everything went extremely laggy. If it's a bigger map, then the game will stutter a little bit until it's loaded everything, but then the game appears to run perfectly fine.
Also, my GPU is overclocked out of the box, and I haven't changed that since I got it. The only thing that I changed was fan speed, just to make my GPU run a bit cooler in game. Also my monitor resolution is at 1600 x 900, and I use these settings: http://youtu.be/nvUogK-wgzU

Well the issue might not actually be you. I play the Cod series with my brother on the Xbox 1 and the 360 (not a big fan it is just the only games my brother plays ha ha) and even on a console the game is really buggy. I have a really fast connection and just this weekend it was getting super laggy, we also have loading issues, and freeze up problems. It almost seems when they made the game they didn't check these things out properly. Now if your lagging in campaign then it might not be the game.

I only installed multiplayer, as I only had about 100 GB of hard drive space left and I still want to install Far Cry 4 when I get it. Also, the very strange thing was the fact that my computer kept lagging even after the game had quit, so even while I was still in the skype conversation with my friend, I just had to turn off my computer by holding the power button. The other strange thing was that the skype call was still fine and there was no distortion of audio, even when my computer was lagging. Im just wondering now whether it could be a CPU problem, or maybe a driver problem.

I'm more willing to bet it's call of duty's fault. [strike]The only reason I could think of for lagging after you shut the game down is that it could have still been running in the background, meaning that you would need task manager to end it manually.[/strike]

Just read the rest of your post. If this only happened after playing cod then I would think it's cod.
