Not too long ago I upgraded my machine but prior to that (May 2012 - October 2014) the ssd I used would boot up in about 5-7 seconds from the start of the splash logo(When the four orbs come together and form the windows logo) but ever since upgraded my Splash screen boot up time has increased to 31.5 seconds - about 45 seconds from when I hit the power button. I could not point to what it was, I figured after everything updated and installed I'd be good to go. It's now been about 2 months, and I still have this problem. And it doesn't help that I just buillt a budget gaming PC for a friend, who only could afford a WD Blue HDD and is able to boot up in about 19 seconds! Hey I'm happy for him, don't get me wrong, but I'm infuriated since I spent a lot (at the time) for the SSD.

System Specs Are:

MOBO: ASUS Sabertooth z97 Mark 2
OS: Windows 7 SP1
CPU: Intel I7 4790k - w/ Phanteks cpu cooler
SSD: Corsair Neutron 240GB
HDD's: HGST 4TB
WD Green 1.5 TB - x2
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 980
Memory: 16gb G. Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1866
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro M 1000W 80 Plus Bronze

This problem also happened with another Motherboard - MSI z87-GD65 Gaming, so I do not think it is a motherboard problem.

I also tried booting with only the SSD connected and it gave the same result.

TRIM is indeed enabled and has been from the get go. Same with AHCI prior to Windows Installation....Prior to the 6(six) clean installs I have done already. Yeah. I'd rather not re-install windows for the seventh time.

On startup I pretty much disabled everything. But I did not have this issue before with the same(or more) services starting up on my last build with the same ssd

Checked the speed of the drive and I posted a pic below. I'm assuming the speeds are fine, right?

Only have two options in Boot load order: SSD and DVD drive, took out the rest. no dice

I honestly don't have a clue what else to do, or what else I may be overlooking. I seriously do not want to fresh install windows and go through the billion updates and drivers I have to re-install. I'd rather hang myself. I have had nothing but issues with this entire build from the get-go and I pretty solved a lot on my own and have the system working as intended except for this slow boot time. Please any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Solution
Unplug the extra hdds for now see if it makes a diff. If it does then its one of the hdds

They may also need a firmware update, if one is available

Thanks for the fast response I realized I have a ton of Boot Event ID: 100 and Shutdown Event ID: 200 I know very little on Event Viewer logs or ID's and have never really look too much. Keep that in mind, since I'm not exactly "smart:" Hopefully I post this correctly:

Disable the logo in the BIOS so you can see what its doing / saying on the post screen.

If it takes a while to move from the post screen, it may mean it's having trouble reading one of the hdd's

Whats on these?? HDD's: HGST 4TB WD Green 1.5 TB - x2

Try updating the BIOS as well. You may have to reconfigure it after. What BIOS is on this now??

Its]http://www.asus.com/nz/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_Z97_MARK_2/HelpDesk_Download/]Its up to 2012 now[/url]

Update the BIOS (if 2012 isnt on it) using ez flash

Disabled logo, and on Post it only showed the devices that were connected and didn't show any errors. It moved fairly quickly, I barely skimmed through it so it didn't lag/hang

ON HGST 4 TB I have render footage and recorded gameplay from shadowplay/dxtory

the 1.5's have games from Steam/origin/gog

My bios version is quite old build 1008 - 5/29/2014 I believe. I'll try and update and post results soon. Thanks for the help so far :)

I will give this go as soon as I can tomorrow and post back my findings. It's already gotten pretty late over here. I'll check back regularly on any other suggestions. Thanks :)

It seems like this what worked for me. I unplugged the two 1.5 TB's first since they are older and same result then went ahead an did the 4 TB and Windows booted up in about 8 seconds :) I shut down and re-plugged and it reverted to slow boot. I'll check if there is a firmware update for the drive

In any case answer at your leisure, and thank you so much for helping pinpoint the cause :)

Now to see what steps I have to take to solve what's wrong with this particular drive
