I've been trying to install windows 8.1 on my new SSD (OCZ Vertex 460 240 gb), with no luck.

This is the error message I get: " Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting from this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

I've tried using diskpart to format the SSD, updating the BIOS, and plugging the drive into a couple different SATA slots.

The bios settings for the SATA mode selection is AHCI. The drive does appear in the bios, and I can interact with is normally if I boot into windows (from a separate drive). It just wont accept windows to be installed onto it.

Note: I have had windows start the installing process -- it happened only once -- (copying files and installing) but when it came time to reboot, it completely refused to boot from it. Is my drive dead? It seems to work fine for everything else....

My motherboard is an ASUS Z97 Pro (Wifi). I'm not sure if it is compatible with the SSD, though I have no idea why it wouldn't be.

I've tried formatting, deleting, and recreating the partition to no avail. I still get the error message.

Well I found something of interest: When booting from the install DVD, if I choose to start up in the UEFI, windows installation works... (I formatted in the Windows installer) However, I cannot start up from the SSD once it reboots. I get a black screen with a cursor before getting redirected back to the BIOS.

I've tried rebuilding the boot using "bootrec /rebuildbcd," but it tells me it cannot find any windows installations.

There does appear to be files on the SSD since I can see then when listing all the files from the command prompt. It just doesnt want to start up from the SSD. Any ideas?
