How to fix slow WD HDD?

My computer has recently got slow over the past few months, and im suspecting it is because of my western digital caviar black 1tb. I tested it on HDD benchmark and it will randomly drop in performance as low as 2mb/s.

IS there anyway to fix it? or do i need to buy a new one

How much free space do you have left on the drive? Have you run "Disk Cleanup" or something like CCleaner?

about 700gb is already used up. I have ran disk cleanup and cc cleaner and defraged disc with no improvments.

Did you install any new software just before you noticed the drop in hard drive performance? Have you checked to see what services are running that may be causing the drop off in performance?

What is the "Health" tab showing, which is next to the "Benchmark" tab in the HD Tune Pro results? Such slow downs could be caused by bad sectors. It will also be a good idea to run WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=BnBLUl
