PC picks up audio from the earbuds instead of the built in mic

Here's a head scratcher, my earphones' built in mic work perfectly on every other device but my PC. Nothing is muted, the mic is set as default device, all drivers up to date, and volume turned all the way up with the booster all the way. The thing is my pc is picking up audio from the buds themselves instead of the mic. Not voices but when I tap them against something. Apparently this has never happened to anyone ever since no solution could be found on google. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to fix this ?

My PC specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4GB
Gigabyte GA-Z97M-D3H Motherboard
Windows 8.1 64bit
8GB of DDR3 RAM

Computer audio ports are designed to work with one plug per jack. They have to separated, there isn't much of a way around that. Other devices are designed for the mic and speakers to plug into one jack.

Via 3.5 mm mic in jack on the front panel of the case. Using the back panel produces the same result.

Is it only one jack or both? I know my headset uses the mic and headphone jacks separately but requires an adapter for devices with only one jack. If you notice on the plug, there are different rings at different intervals. These act as pins and must line up properly for everything to work.

It is only one jack and all the pins are lined up perfectly. I may look into an adapter but I don't think that's needed since the mic works fine on all other devices. Any other suggestions?
