I was wondering if I should swap the Intel Pentium B950 in my Samsung NP300E5C for a Intel Core i3 M 380 ?
I have to repair the DC jack on it and will have the MOBO out to do the repair, is there any benefit?

Looking for PRO's vs CON's

Why wouldn't you? What is the downfall? Or the pro's to keeping the B950?

I have looked at those comparison charts and in some ways one looks better than the other and then in other ways it looks just the opposite, I was hoping someone with more knowledge could explain why is better than the other.

My point is that there is very little to choose from between the two. So going to the effort and expense of replacing one processor with the other will ultimately have very little effect and carries the risk of failure and loss of your system.

Manufacturer's motherboards on laptops often don't have the necessary BIOS support for different processor architectures (such as the hyper-threading i3 processor).

So I see little upside and a fair amount of risk.

Well as for cost, there is none, I already have both processors. The B950 is in the laptop now and I have to replace the motherboard in it(which I also already have) and the i3 is in a parts laptop(had a bad motherboard too) I have sitting on my bench. As far as motherboard support, both cpu's come in this model laptop and use the same motherboard. So I know it will work in the motherboard, it is the power of the processor I don't know much about, graphics and performance stuff.

I just found this comparison Compare Intel Core i3-380M (PGA988) vs Pentium B950

It says:
Core i3-380M
A bit faster in general

vs.

Pentium B950
Performs somewhat better in games and graphics programs

Since I will watch videos, movies and play games more than use apps I am keeping the B950.

Thanks for your help Karsten!
