Hello. Today I've decided to clean my computer up and apply thermal paste. It's the first time I'm applying a thermal paste, first I've applied it then put the heatsink back, when I boot my computer up it turns off after 15-20 seconds. I did all the steps again from the beginning and it's still the same. What can I do?

Solution
Hi

Is this a Intel or AMD motherboard & cpu ?
Pins on socket or CPU )

If heat sink is not clamped down correctly or cpu fan not connected the cpu overheats and sends a signal to shut down

If CPU fan not detected the motherboard may be shut down

Excessive thermal material getting onto conductive parts if conductive may cause
short circuit

Check power cables to motherboard are fully in their sockets

Check these things out

Did you remove the old paste or pad residue first from both the CPU and heatsink?

How much did you apply (only a very small amount is needed) and did you securely attach the heatsink with all four corner connections? Is the fan spinning, i.e. is it completely plugged in?

Yes I've removed the old thermal paste, I applied a small amount of thermal paste. And the fan is spinning
I have a gigabyte motherboard and an Intel processor
