I can get the m500 for 79.99 or the mx100 for 109.99. I know the max100 is faster, but considering I currently have a 7200rpm hard disk, will I perceive the difference in speeds? is it worth the extra $30 to go faster?

I agree with you on size, but as far as value, its .33/gb, vs .44/gb, the problem im struggling with is, is the speed a big difference? If the mx100 is opening programs/games 1-5 sec faster, I would get the m500, but if its a 20sec difference, I'd get the mx100. So simply put, what type of speed difference is there?

Less than a second diff. between the two when opening programs.

Thanks, I think I'm going with the M500, I really just want it to make start up faster, and load/install programs faster, I don't transfer a lot of data between hard drives/ flash drives, and except for games, my hard disk never sees 50gb+ installs, so I can deal with it being a slower install, since its already a huge leap on HDD. I feel like I wont need the benefits of a faster SSD. As far as firmware, I am assuming they're both reliable, and as far as updates, I don't know of any features of a SSD other than storing data, so I doubt I would care for new features. Am I right with my assumptions, that reliability of these two are fairly close, and firmware and updates, aren't to important of a factor in the selection of an SSD for a consumer?

You won't usually see new features with newer firmware. Usually it will fix bugs and tweak speeds. For a mature drive like the M500, these kinks have already been worked out and as such are no longer needed. You will of course find both drive reliable, much more so than a HDD.

Heck I'm still running a 126GB G.Skill Phenoix Pro II that cost $350 when I bought it. Still just as fast as ever. SSDs are so cheap, fast, and reliable now, it's crazy.
