Over the past few weeks I've been having a problem with my computer booting from a cold start.
After posting and displaying the windows logo very briefly the display will lose signal and then the lights on my mouse and keyboard will turn off.

The only way I can get the machine to successfully boot after this is to shut the machine down via holding the power button, and then pulling the power cord and then turning the machine back on again.

normally the machine produces one beep during post, now for some reason its producing 2 very short beeps after the single beep which isn't even in the manual for the motherboard.

After recently installing my new graphics cards the issue is far more prevalent.

"Edit: I've also noticed that the VGA light and boot device light on the motherboard also flash briefly before attempting to load the operating system" Does that mean there is a problem with those devices or the associated ports/slots?"

Things I've Tried

  • Not using the EZ flash USB port on the mobo
    Re-installing display drivers
    reseating memory sticks
reseating video cards "2 geforce GTX 970's"

SPECS:
Windows 8.1 64
Corsair 900D chassis
Sabertooth Z77
Intel I7 3770K 3.70GHz
16GB's of Corsair Vengeance 1866mhz
2 Nvidia Geforce GTX 970's
1TB Raided HDD's
250GB Samsung SSD
Corsair RM1000 PSU
H80 CPU watercooler

RAM information: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233142

Already took the liberty of running a full set of diagnostics on the memory.
No detected failures.

I do have a test power supply 850W

Problem is that the issue only occurs when the machine is powered off for more than 6-8 hours so I can only test one thing per day give or take.

One of the strangest issues I've had with my machine.

Well at least I have a way of consistently testing the issue.

After connecting the new power supply and turning the unit on it will not boot to windows normally.

Same problem. One post beep followed by 2 short beeps, Black Screen, Peripherals turn off.

Removed one of the graphics cards, and removed all but one memory module.

any suggestions?

Using multiple RAM kits can cause compatibility problems such as unable to boot or unable to operate at rated specifications.

Each memory kit is thoroughly tested to ensure compatibility within each memory kit. Because your kits have not been tested together compatibility isn't guaranteed.

XMP settings are for a single kit not multiple kits.

You also may have the wrong BIOS settings for booting Windows 8.1 64, which can utilize secure boot and differs from Windows 7.

All of the memory modules were tested at the same time, I didn't start removing hardware until all hardware tests passed.

Secure boot, fast boot, and hybrid shutdown have been disabled.

Trying the VCCSA solution after I reconnect the PSU.

That may have fixed the issue, gonna leave the machine powered off for a little while to verify that solution is working.

I'll post an update tomorrow afternoon.

What exactly does that mean?

Motherboard starting to go out?

Righteous, well assuming this thing boots up fine tomorrow morning I'll mark that as the solution.

Appreciate the help!
