I'm planning on upgrading my GPU in the near future. Before I do this, I would like to have a few questions answered before I get started.

Before I go on, this is my current setup:
CPU: AMD FX-8120
GPU: Radeon HD 7850 XFX Core 2GB Edition
RAM: 8 GB 1333 MHz
Motherboard: MSI 760GM-E51
PSU: Ultra LSP650 650W

As of right now, I want to upgrade to a R9 290, but I don't know which variant of the R9 290 would be best for me to get, so my first question is which version of this card should I get?

I found three that seemed okay. I'm still not sure which one is better though:

After looking at many of the reviews on these pages, I've noticed a common occurrence. MANY people are experiencing "black screens", so this is the main question I would like answered: What causes this problem, and what is the best way for me to prevent this from happening?

I will also have to upgrade my PSU before upgrading my GPU, so this brings up my next question. How strong of a PSU do I need to get? I'd prefer not to get something too crazy, but rather something that perfectly fits the setup.

I would also like to know if my CPU would bottleneck this card? If so, how bad? I'm considering overclocking it, but I'm unsure about it. If the current strength of it isn't enough for the card, then I will definitely overclock it.

Thank you so much for helping me.

That's theory, in practice double performance is best case scenario that is VERY seldomly achievable, due to games lacking proper support for Xfire.

Faster memory for the same card will not help if one of the cards has slower memory either.

Over Xfiring your current card, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a new one instead.

You should strongly consider a GTX 970 instead. Superior to the r9 290 in EVERY way possible for essentially the same price. As a bonus the power consumption is so low that PSU will work just fine. As for a bottleneck I run an FX 8320 which is a bit faster than yours but not by a lot with zero issues. Any aftermarket 970 would work but the one that seems to have the best performance and the most favorable reviews is the one I went with which is the MSI GTX 970. Hope this helps you out.

That doesn't seem like a bad idea. I'll consider it.

keep your current card, upgrade to an intel i5 which is going to smoke the amd cpu and boost performance as much as buying a new video card, then you can buy another of the same video card and x-fire them at a later date along with getting faster memory and double your current right now performance.
