Guys, I just oc my 4790k to 4.9Ghz on 1.29V. Stress test max 86C on Intel Burns on H110 water, Aida64 and Prime95 v26.6 maxes 77C. Question is: is ok to keep this setup all the time? I worry about constant 1.29 voltage. I mostly game, no rendering or etc. Or to go down to 4.6Ghz i can run on 1.15V and forget big numbers? :) Thank you.
P.S. I'm new in OC, this is my first try.

Ya thats completely normal, its the whole point of adaptive. Congrats on your first successful overclock enjoy your cpu, you got a sweet build. If you have any issues send me a msg and ill be more than happy to help.

As others have stated 86 is rather high, but what is more worrying to me is your voltage. Now I have a 4770k running at 1.31 volts but it is in adaptive mode, which means that 95% of the time it is running in the 1.2's.

So my recommendations are as followed:
-drop down to 4.8ghz, you will not notice any difference besides your geek level and you should see a decent decrease in voltage and therefore temps
-switch your cpu mode to adaptive (just note you should not stress test in this mode as it can cause voltage spikes)

Overclocking is awesome if you have the equipment but remember you also want the chip to last therefore you want everything to be nice and cool. You have a killer chip by the looks of it, I wouldn't push it too hard all the time, especially if you don't need it. Anywhere past 4.5ghz isn't really noticeable in day to day usage or gaming.

1.3V is 100% safe dont worry about it too much. you have a very good mobo so the voltage should be very accurate and consistant (no spikes). You only have to worry about ur temps. maybe you could lap ur cpu or get a bettercooling unit? better fans? or keep using it like this but make sure you dont have 100% load for long periods

I in the same boat. I started a post on how cool it runs. I took the multiplier to x45 and set the voltage to 1.261 to get 4.5ghz stable high 70's low 80's in prime 95. What I was told to do is turn on adaptive voltage and set a max volts of 1.261 and set the offset to +-.01 volts. That has lowered my temps to high 70's to mid 70's. Haven't seen 80+ ever sence I did that.

Here is some new tests:
I lowered multiplier to 48, changed voltage to 1.249, ran some stress tests and this time temp spiked to 71,74,76,73 max on 100% load. So i guess the temp is safe now? But when I tried to change Vcore to Adaptive and rebooted, it somehow automatically got back to 1.042 V and BSOD of course. What I'm doing wrong? Where exactly do I set Adaptive? I did on the field where you set your Vcore to Auto/Manual/Adaptive. Or no? Thank you.

Those settings look alot better. For only a loss of .1ghz you decreased the voltage by a good amount and the temps are definitely within the safe range.

I'm not sure if im understanding your second part, but if when you switch it to adaptive you just need to re input the vcore you found to be stable and save it an it should boot. Adaptive means that it will run at lower voltages when the chip is not in 100% use. The only other reason I can think about why it may bsod is because setting it to adaptive may require slightly more voltage. Try increasing the voltage a little bit and see if it boots, say 1.26.

Ok guys, I was changing to Adaptive in a wrong place. Now I set up Adaptive on 1.25V. I ran some performance test and noticed cpu voltage spiking from 0.7 to 1.25. My last question is: is it ok that voltage jumps up and down accordingly Hz so rapid (not going over 1.25 though)? If your answer yes - I consider my first OC done and will be happy :)
Thank you!

.77 volts at idle 800mhz is normal.... As for spiking when hits 4.8 to 1.25 volts is normal as well. you've hit the nail. Btw yours is more stable then mine. I can't hit 4.5ghz without 1.26 volts.
