I'm looking to buy a graphics card for my new gaming build. I was wondering what are the best cards for around $300 - $400 ? I would prefer nvidia with sli support but open to amd

Item's I have already bought,

Case: in win grone
cpu: I5 4690k
motherboard: gigabyte gaming 7
psu: corsair rm750
ram: gskill 2133 4 x 8gb
cpu cooler: corsair hydro series h110 extreme
gpu: still looking for one

the r9 290x is an option aswell. pretty much the same performance, it just runs hotter and requires more power. but it's cheaper.(will be more expensive if you take the energy bill in account)

I have the gtx 970 and I'm verry pleased with it
 
given your build, it seems the msi twin frozr 970 is getting the best reviews overall. though i think i have heard about coil whine from just about all of the big 4 nvidia board partners.

the 290x cannot overclock. the 970 will completely destroy it at 1.4ghz.
