I'm helping a friend build a gaming / work computer. I would appreciate some help on a few of the components.

He has decided he wants the i7-4790k, 970gtx, a cheap but reliable 128ish SSD and 16gb of ram. He doesn't want to overclock, and he doesn't want to buy a mobo with a ton of features he'll never use. We could use some suggestions on a decent mobo, ram and SSD, or just some sample builds with those parts.

The budget is $1300, but the lower the better.

Thanks for any help/suggestions

http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ think you can save a bit more by searching for better price/performance ratio.

I have no idea why he wants an unlocked i7 when he isnt interested in OC. Basically the gpu and cpu are the most expensive in the build.

Your friend has to pick his case.He is the only one who knows what he like the most. But the cases are no more than 100$.

Admirable
For starters, get the non-k i7 if you're not overclocking

An 1866mhz ram, any brand should be fine
A 1150 motherboard worth 120$ and above not below should be fine

A reliable psu seasonic, xfx or something else, or just a seasonic m12 620watts

Ssd of your choice
Thats it.

This includes some cooling for the K series cpu, but if not just get a regular 4790 and a h97 mobo. Another cooler's possible but watercooling's good and looks good while saving space for airflow so ;)
