What performance gain can i expect going from an A8 3820 2.5ghz to an FX 8350 4ghz

i have an R9290 tri x oc in my system and an A8 3820 apu, my question is how much of a performance gain would i experience in games if i switched the processor and obviously another motherboard to an FX 8350 ? has anyone made a similar jump i know that changing a cpu usually doesn't increase performance much but it has double the cores and almost double the clock speed not to mention overclocking.

You'd probably see maybe 5 FPS gains in general, however in heavily cluttered areas in games, and poorly optimized games I think you'll find that when your FPS tanks, it won't go so low, and your average frame rate will increase.

One thing I will add, is that the AMD 8-Cores have pretty snappy multitasking performance, you'll be able to do a lot of tasks at once whilst gaming and not receive a performance hit for it. Hope this helps!

It is hard to quantify performance gap as it will depend on the task you are performing, e.g. using PassMark benchmark the FX is almost 3 times better than the A8.

But the socket is different meaning you will have to change your motherboard.
Maybe considering switching to Intel will give you best performance now and better upgrade path.

What is your budget?

5 fps just about justifies it for me i already know that the multitasking will be great and i do have a habbit of having a few dozens tabs and windows open and the extra performance is just the icing on the cake thanks, also my budget is essentially unlimited but i don't see the point in spending an extra £200+ for the marginally better performance that i would get from going intel, in my personal opinion as long as im maintaining 60 fps i personally cant tell any extra above that, then im happy

I know im reviving an old thread here but i just wanted to post my results for anyone else whos considering a similar upgrade, now i used to think that cpu bottlenecks were mainly a myth but by simply upgrading the cpu i have seen fps increases of 20-40 which is incredible, especially in open world games such as the assassins creed series where in black flag and unity i went from 20-30 fps on the lowest settings at 720p to 40-60 on high settings at 1080p. this was a well worth upgrade for £250 for the mother board and cpu the same it would have cost me to get a second R9290 and gives the same performance increase along with great multitasking performance.
