Which will look better ? 1080p low settings 0xaa or 720p high ultra 2x aa ?

I'd say, in the given though vague example, 720/ultra.

It depends a lot on the game of course, but 'ultra' generally means rendering things like shadows, reflections, more detailed textures and so on. 'Low' means no shadows, no reflections, less detail, less of everything.

Lower definition anti-aliased shadows beat higher definition aliased non-shadows every time.

Plus monitor size/viewing distance play a part. For certain sizes/distances the difference between 720p and 1080p can be relatively small, and for a sub-30 inch monitor it's generally held that there's no benefit if sitting 5-6 feet away or more.

Of course, a higher resolution will always look better. Anti-Aliasing doesn't matter unless you look deep at the edges of certain objects and observe the shadows. You don't need it, you just need to play the game ;) Keep in mind, there is a lot of difference in 720p and 1080p :p Goodluck and happy gaming bro.

I'd also add in the affect of running at a non-native resolution of your monitor - I always tend to find non-native has that extra slightly fuzzy look. But again, at a suitable distance, it's less noticeable.

In all honesty it's an odd question because it's subjective - run whatever game at 1080p/low & 720p/high and stick with whichever you prefer.
