Hey y'all. I've had this XPS 720 for a while and really enjoyed it. But I'd like to run Dragon Age:Inquisition on it and the graphics card needs to be at least 2 GBs and I'm running at 1. Wondering if anyone could recommend a card? Not as great with hardware as I should be and wasn't sure what the PCI connectors would support. Please see the information below I gathered from CPU-Z.

You are just about at the limit of upgrading that system for games.

If the system will run a Q9550 CPU, that would be a good upgrade but may not be good enough. If you can find a fast quad core CPU cheap enough (I'd say around $50 may be worth it) try that. A new CPU will mean a new motherboard and RAM which is over $300 for a gaming setup. The catch is that you may spend that $50 or whatever on just a CPU upgrade and it wont run well and you are stuck with spending that money.

You should be able to see the other parts and get it back though if you do a full upgrade.

You already have 8 GB of RAM, that is plenty so at least that part is OK if you just upgrade the CPU.

If you want to play DA:I, it might be time for a straight upgrade. Dragon Age: Inquisition does not support dual core systems. There may be a patch, or a user hack, but that core 2 duo is starting to get pretty long in the tooth. Even as a late gen Core 2, that's still a 7 year old chip, and the jump from the core 2 line to the i3/i5/i7 line was one of the bigger in recent memory.

Basically, there's no GPU that will make DA:I run on your rig, but if you're looking for a cheap 2gb chip, there are a handful of r7 260x brands floating around with 2gb of VRAM for around $120. Your motherboard should support PCI-E no problem-- AGP hasn't been a thing for much longer than that, and modern video cards still run fine on old versions of PCI-E.

it would also help to know the motherboard model and manufacturer as an example i have a Biostar Hi-Fi A88W 3D so it can be looked up also upgrading processor would be a good idea too.

Regarding the motherboard, I think the make and model is:
Dell Inc.
model 0YU822
revision A00
serial ..CN137407AI01HX.

I'd be cool with upgrading the motherboard at a bit of expense or upgrading the processor on this board even though it only goes to 8 GB of RAM.
Anyone have thoughts on whether its tenable?
Thanks.
Brad

HI. ive had the dell xps 720 for 9 years (bought in 2007)and it runs all games, including dragon age inquisition with the gtx 550 ti and 4gb ram, it also runs doom 4 and the witcher wild hunt.....cant upgrade motherboard , I've finally, after 9 years moved onto another rig, but only after the graphics card is overheating and the architecture doesn't recognise any other newer graphics card.( i installed 8 other cards and it saw none of them, Best buy ever though.
