I was in the middle of the game dayz when my pc instantly shut off, tried turning it back on, the front led blinks and the cpu fans spin for 3 loops then stop. i tried using the psu in another pc and it booted fine. There are no beeps or smells. What is the problem?

Sounds like something overheated and your machine turned off to prevent damage. Get some temperature monitoring software like realtemp and GPU-z and see if temperature is spiking very high when gaming.

Did you actually get a game under load and check the temps because you replied 2 minutes after I posted, I doubt you checked.... :/

Is anything overclocked? If so, bring all your specs in BIOS to default.

well, if he says the computer isnt booting, he wont be able to get a game to put the system under load, therefore cannot check temps, nor would he be able to go into the bios based on the issues that he is reporting.

if the PSU works in another computer, it shoudlnt be any different in the one with the issue. i would first suspect the MB.

disconnect everythign except essential items then try it. i dont foresee it working still, but you will want to try everything possible before going the replacement route.

My apologies I misread.

Try clearing the CMOS on your board. Unplug machine's power first. Find the disc shaped battery, remove it, wait a good 5 minutes, place it back in, power on the machine and see if you can get into windows or the bios.
