Hi There!

I'm building a gaming right with the following specs:

- Intel Core i5 4670
- Nvidia GTX970
- 8GB RAM
- Asus mobo

Anyway, I have a Seagate Expansion 2tb

I got it as a payment from my previous boss, because he ran out of money. Anyway as I said I'm thinking on taking out the drive and using it as my primary HD for this build, I'm going to use the PC mostly as a gaming machine and a bit of Maya.

Would this HD bottle neck my PC badly? Should I buy a expensier HD like the WD black caviar?

The link you have provided shows a comparison between a WD Black and a Seagate Hybrid?

When using the comparison tool between a 2010 Blue and a 2013 Black, a Black averages a +36% average speed increase. No other models seem to be included in the drop down menu, but to be honest I wouldnt put too much weight on comparison calculators like that.

Either HDD would be a fine choice over the external one previously mentioned, though neither would be anywhere near as fast as an SSD.

I would not recommend it. The speeds of this drive would be far inferior to using a typical hard drive, as these are not designed to be primary hard drives. They are designed to be backup storage and/or portable storage. I would say throw a 240+ SSD in it and use the external to store things like pictures, music and documents.

If I were you, Id just invest in a new purpose built internal HDD. If your going for a gaming rig, then load times will matter. That HDD will result in some pretty hefty load times..

If this isnt a problem in your view then go for it, but I would definitely advise spending a little cash on a new HDD.

The other option is to buy an SSD to use as your boot drive and for your most used games, and use the external HDD drive as mass storage space for anything else.
