Frequent Crashes and Other Random Problems

Hey guys,

I'm turning to you guys because I've had enough of my PC and I feel like I'm about to throw it out the window!

The problem: On start up mostly, when coming back from sleep mode and even at random times my computer crashes. Every time it crashes, it's a different error and there isn't anything consistent that I can see that I'm doing that causes it.

Random stuff keeps happening like I can't update windows 8 at all, all my icons are gone from the start menu all of a sudden. The "search" function doesn't work in windows or in the windows explorer. I could be playing a game one week for hours, next week it just starts crashing randomly. At one point, it seems like my whole registry was wiped or reset (as software I had trials for restarted the counter...). My monitor doesn't turn on until the digital input from Windows, so I see no splash screen or BIOS or anything until Windows (I have only one graphics card).

I have checked on two anti-virus applications and my computer comes up clean both time with a complete scan.

Where do I start and how do I fix this? I bought this computer in parts a year ago and paid a local shop to assemble it for me. At this point, I'm convinced it's a hardware issue. But I have no idea where to start. Specs are below. You guys are amazing if we can fix this...thanks so much!

Specs:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1150 - GA-Z87X-UD4H (rev. 1.x)
Power Supply: CORSAIR CX series CX600 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Solution
Update the BIOS, to F9, its out of date. Upload the dmp files somewhere then post the link . Uninstall one of those AV programs. You should only have 1 installed

Thanks for that. I was able to run CHKDSK in read-only mode and it said it did find errors. However, if I am to fix them, since this is the C: drive, I need to restart my computer and it'll run and fix problems then

BUT my screen doesn't come up until the digital input from Windows, so I won't see any of this. Will it automatically boot Windows after it's done? Otherwise, I'll need to figure out how to get it to show me the splash screen first...

Thanks again for your help!

If you haven't already figured this out, yes it will run through the process and then reboot windows. You may find that your screen will come on after the initial BIOS screen. Hope you get it sorted!

Hello again,

I did some searching on other threads on the website and I figured out the screen bit. When I plug my monitor to my Motherboard I can see the BIOS splash screen etc. When it's plugged into my GPU I see nothing until Windows.

So I did the CHKDSK and asked it to scan and fix errors on the next reboot. But when it did that, it just gets stuck at 11% for hours (Of course...). And I tried this 4 times :(

Any idea where to go from here?

With the small amount of info at hand it sounds like your hard drive is knackered. You need to replace it. Run a hard disk diagnostic on it with a smart report like crystal disk and check for any big red warnings!

Crystal Disk also came back with no red warnings and said my drive was in good condition. The Windows Memory Diagnostic tool also detected no problems. I'm running memtest86 next.

So not sure what happened, but memtest also came back clean for any memory problems. So I ran CHKDSK again but with /f /r /i /l /c parameters instead of last time when I did /f /r /x. This time it got stuck at 12% and I went out to grocery shop and I came back just as it was finishing at 100%. No crashes since!
