I have an Intel i7 4770k already installed on a motherboard and was wondering if it is possible to take that processor out and then put install it on a different motherboard. I am asking this because I want to move my computer into a smaller form factor.

Solution

As long as the new motherboard has the same socket, absolutely.

While it is possible, you need to make sure it's compatible.

First, check to see if what socket your CPU is (in your case, socket LGA1150).
Second, find a motherboard of the same CPU socket type and desired form-factor.
Next, check that motherboard's CPU Support List (found on most motherboard support pages) to verify your CPU is on that list.
Finally, check to see if a BIOS update is going to be required for your processor to function normally on that motherboard. If the BIOS version number listed next to your processor model is not the lowest one listed, assume that a BIOS update is required. If a BIOS update is required, you may need a natively functional processor to temporarily install into that motherboard in order to update it.
