So I RMA'd. my XFX R9-295x2 for some display port problems. I've was using that card and an ASUS 290x in trifire before no problems. While the 295x2 was in RMA I was just using my 290x. Again no problems.
So the 295x2 came in today and I put my setup back just like it was before. 295x2 in first pci and the 290x in the 3rd pci. I go to turn on the computer, it turns on but no bios...no windows load. Looking at the board I see the first of the 4 LED lights are on. looking at the manual I think this is the CPU LED?
I took out the 295x2 and put JUST the 290x back in to see if that was the problem and still no boot. The machine powers on, everything spins up but the light stays solid red on that first LED. Ive tried removing the motherboard battery, pressing the CMOS button on the back. I checked to be sure my SSD sata and power were still plugged in, all cables to the board are in solid......what else can I try?????????
PS...Also just tried reinstalling the CPU, new thermal paste ECT.

Here are my specs....same as they were before when the system was working just fine.:
AMD 9590( stock)
R9-295x2 + R9-290x
ASUS crosshair V formula Z
Corsair h100i (4 fans push/pull)
EVGA 1600w P2 (133 amps on 1 12v rail)
32gb corsair dominator platinum @ 1866mhz
Thermaltake V-71 full tower
Samsung 840 pro SSD 512gb

Solution
Problem solved!!!
So I decided to try reseating my CPU just in case that was the problem. I then noticed two switches on the motherboard I hadn't before....the EPU and TPU switches.
I still dont know what they do or which one was on but I checked the manual and set them both to what I thought was "default".
Now everything works and am prime 95'inng my OC as I type.
Thanks again.

No I dont have a stock fan, yes i have the sound plugged into the motherboard....no beeps at all. Everything worked fine until I plugged the other card I got back from RMA into the board and turned the power on. No post and CPU LED after this. I also tried putting in my old 8350 cpu as well as reinstalling the 9590 twice, new thermal paste and all. All pins are fine on both cpu's.
As I type this I have the bios flashback going in the ROG port but the green ROG light has been on for 10 minutes so far. It hasn't gone off yet.
I did order another bios chip from ASUS just in case.
My 1st question is this though...how would installing another video card, that I had working in there before, corrupt the bios?
My 2nd question is, if the bios is corrupted would that stop the flashback from being successful/completed??

I dont have another PSU.
However it is a 80+ platinum rated 1600 watt thats only 6 weeks old. As well i doubt I would be getting power at all if that was the case.

It's going to be a week or more before the new bios comes in anyway, I was curious though if you knew the answer to my other question.
Would a corrupted bios prohibit the ROG bios flashback from working? If no and the flashback is supposed to fix the bios corruption then I may have just wasted $14.99 plus $9.00 shipping.
Though I dont have another power supply I do have my old M5A99X R2.0 motherboard and my AMD 8350. If those work then it's not the power supply.
That just means a complete dissassemble and rebuild just to test the PSU......sigh...that's a half a day on a Saturday job for me.
I may wait until the bios comes in just to eliminate that possibility before I jump into an old frankenstien rebuild.

Not complete, as you can test the m5a99x on a cardboard near the case/power supply, and only disconnect the 24 and 8 pin cables from the Crosshair. Problem is that you don't have an extra CPU cooler. You would have connected the case speaker, start the board with only CPU and CPU fan and see if any beeps.
Now, regarding the BIOS, theoretically, Flashback should work and fix a corrupt BIOS. Bios does not get corrupt by installing a graphics card. CMOS might need to be cleared, but BIOS is a memory that gets corrupt only by flashing it.

I will try my old motherboard and CPU with my current PSU, probably not tonight bit in the next couple of days.
Another question though if you don't mind,
When this first happened I did try troubleshooting by removing all the Dimms, GPUs and peripherals and just booting with the CPU and h100i. There was still no post and the same cpu led light and FF error code.
If it was my PSU then it seems strange that it still seemingly powers 3 GPU Vram fans, 4 fans on one radiator and 1 fan on another, five case fans, 4 dimm sticks, and all the case LEDs.
Nothing shuts down or off.
If the 133 amp 12v raIL went bad it should be powering on then off or not at all right?
Thanks for all your help by the way.

except I also tried putting my old 8350 in the crosshair v just to test and same problem. Which is why I think somthing blew on the motherboard.
Thanks again.

Update: So I went ahead and reinstalled everything with my older ASUS M5A99X EVO motherboard and 8350 CPU. booted right up. So it was the motherboard. Already RMA'd it to ASUS today.
Another question please.
Though it all seems to work now with my old motherboard, gaming, windows internet, etc. no problems. Before I upgraded I had this cpu on this board overclocked to 4.7 in the bios. For some reason I cant OC the cpu now, when I try to change any of the settings inn the bios and F10 to save and restart, my screen will go black upon reboot, I get "no displayport signal" and my keyboard wont light up.
I have to shut down the PC, unplug the PSU cable, then when I boot up again I get " Overclock failed please press F1 to enter setup" to which I press F5 for optomized defaults and reboot to windows.
Im not really complaining about not being able to overclock since i just have to wait a few weeks for my Crosshair V to return but I am curious.
Bios is latest for this board, 2501, from the last time I flashed it.
Any Ideas?

It's strange, the stock speed of the 8350 is 4000mhz with a turbo boost up to 4200mhz. When I press F5 in the bios to load defalts it shows the target speed as 4000mhz. When I reboot though, CPUID shows 4338mhz. Sure enough in the bios it shows the same speed, 4338. Rinse and repeat, F5 resets the target speed to stock but reboot puts it back at 4338mhz.
Now if I try to change any of the settings, Ram to 1866, higher clock speed. voltage, Digi power settings, etc, when I F10 to save and reset ,the system will reboot but my screen will go black, I cant enter bios, and my keyboard will not light up.
I have to shut the power down and unplug the system, then when I turn it back on it all works again but with that weird clock speed of 4338 and ram speed of 1426 already set.
I did try removing the battery for a minute to clear the CMOS but its the same thing.
Again, I can surf the internet and print, but games will randomly crash or stutter. Strange stuff.
Must have something to do with not being able to alter the bios in anyway.

Well, the version was already the latest, 2501. Just to be sure, I did reflash it to the same version 2501. No effect on the problem.
I suppose I could download and flash it to an older bios version when I get home from work but wouldn't my having reflashed it to the current version accomplished the same thing? Considering that the current version was working just fine for months before I upgraded to the Formula-Z?
