So, I recently built a gaming pc. It's going great. I overclocked it, messed with the bios, and installed 2.5tb to it. The bad thing is I got ubuntu 14.04 and I am having the worst experience with ethernet. It is detecting my ethernet, has the ip, can detect the speed, and says it is connected, but when I try to browse the internet.... it fails. I cannot use Wifi because I have no adapter(i planned on using ethernet only since it is a desktop) I know for sure it's not a router issue because I tested it on other pcs. Also it's not my pc because the Mobo is brand new and high end along with all the other parts. How can I fix this? I don't want to buy windows, because I hate windows and love linux. Thanks!

Solution
Either upgrade to a newer kernel or try a liveusb of Ubuntu 14.10 or 15.0beta.

14.04 has with kernel 3.13. Probably a newer kernel will have support for your Ethernet chipset.. Current kernel is 3.18. All drivers for Linux are built into the kernel so using an old version with new hardware may result in hardware not working correctly.

Maybe it is not the solution to your problem but it is the easiest thing to test first.
