I recently installed an i5 520M CPU into my Lenovo Thinkpad (running windows 7, 64 bit). After starting up my laptop it began shutting down randomly, and I later realized that's it's probably due to my CPU temperatures being so high. The CoreTemp software tells me my CPU is running at 50-70 degress Celsius when idle...and even more when programs are running.
I never had this problem before when I had my i3 processor inside my laptop. Now with the sudden change there seems to be issues. I researched and found that CPUID HWMonitor and SpeedFan are both programs that can help me with my CPU temperature. However, BOTH HWMonitor and SpeedFan don't detect my CPU fan (let alone ANY fan in my laptop). I went through my laptops BIOS to increase my fan speed in hopes that it would cool my CPU down to a more acceptable temperature, but I don't see any option to "change" fan speed in the BIOS (I've looked through every menu option).
So, I'm left clueless. How am I to cool down my CPU given that all these things are going wrong? Do I need a new CPU cooling fan? If I do need a NEW CPU cooling fan, will any laptop CPU fan fit/work in my laptop? Please advise...my CPU is overheating big time!
Cheers
