Hi Guys,

I'm currently looking at getting a sound card for my PC wanted some advise on which to choose. I was looking at either the Creative X7, Creative ZXR, Asus Xonar STX II, or Asus Phoebus. I will be using it for my PC with my Turtle Beach Elite 800 headphones. Purely used for gaming, I don't use the headphones to listen to music, so I'm purely interested in the sound effects and sound quality each would give. I currently have a Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard in my desktop.

A side question, I'm looking at getting another EVGA 980SC card for SLI as I want to game in 4K, problem being these cards take up 2 PCIE slots so having the card where it is now blocks the port where the sound card would go. The guy who built my PC said I should have the GPU in the top slot as its the fastest, but all the PCIE ports are x16 ports, so whether I use the third and fourth, or whatever configuration, shouldn't effect the performance of the cards should it?
If it would how would you connect the sound card while maintaining optimum performance for both sound cards?

Thanks, that's what I was originally planning on doing but a few guys at work have tried to talk me into getting one. With my motherboard it should support dolby digital shouldn't it? Whenever I hook something up via my optical port I can never select it though under the advance tab, it's either stereo with all the 16 or 24bit and Hz options, or the only surround sound option is DTS interactive 5.1. Is that how it's suppose to be? I can't set it to DTS as no headphones support DTS so whenever I use my headphones which is 99% of my gaming time as I work late and because of that game when everyone else is asleep, I have to stick to stereo.

dd?

It says " With various software utilities like environment sound emulation, multiple-band and independent software equalizer, dynamic range compressor and expander, optional Dolby PCEE program, SRS TruSurround HD, SRS Premium Sound, Fortemedia SAM, Creative Host Audio, Synopsys Sonic Focus, DTS Surround Sensation | UltraPC, and DTS Connect licenses, the ALC1150 offers the highest sound quality, providing an excellent entertainment package and game experience for PC users."

Also wanted to get a sound card so I could have access to dolby headphone, and also dolby live. 2 things my onboard chip does not support. Which card would be better though, the ZxR or the STXII?
