Black Screen and Beeping After Upgrading RAM

Hi, I recently bought a new Acer Aspire V5-123 netbook, it was slow as anything so I deleted all the bloatware and it became a bit faster, I then decided to upgrade the RAM.

I bought a new 4gb DDR3 from Crucial to replace the 2gb DDR3 that it came with. I checked that it was capable of handling the upgrade and I'm sure I've bought the right one. However I've put it in and on start-up all I get is a black screen and some short beeps. The beeping eventually stopped but the screen stayed black.

I put the old 2gb RAM back in and it started up fine so I went to check the forums etc and all I can see is recommendations for BIOS settings.

The Aspire is running on windows 8 so I got into the UEFI but I couldn't see what needed changing or where?

I've checked the BIOS is up to date, but I'm not sure what I need to do?

If anyone can help I would be forever grateful!

Preferably, yes. Or check to see if you can adjust RAM voltage in the BIOS manually, although I suspect it won't allow you to.
Does the new stick run at the same frequency, timings and voltage? You can find such information of the new stick on the accompanying package or manual. The same info of your old stick can be found in the BIOS while it is plugged in and running.

It could also be the case that the netbook manufacturer has rigged the BIOS, to refuse to run if the user attempts to make his own upgrades.

Exactly what model RAM did you buy? The beeping and black screen (not posting) indicates one of two things - either the RAM you bought is faulty OR the RAM is not compatible with the laptop.

The current RAM - Adata 2gb DDR3L 1600 CL11
The new RAM - Crucial 4gb DDR3 - 1600 SODIMM

I checked to see if the DDR3 would work in place of the DDR3L and it seemed to be possible, as far as I know it should run fine. The Crucial website recommended this upgrade for this model of Acer, have I missed something which means it's not compatible?
Sorry if the information isn't all there, still trying to get to grips with it and I'm well out of my depth with this.

So should I send the RAM back and get a new DDR3L one?
