I didnt have the original cd's because i have moved many times so i used a copy from a colleague years ago. it installed fine but it does not allow me to install any of the drivers. i am thinking it might be an installer cd for IT professionals. would that make a difference

Assuming you are the Administrator for the system, you should be able to install drivers. This is more likely a case of the drivers needing SP3 installed before the drivers will install.

This is also a (likely) illegal install of XP and as such we can't help you.

I am not sure if it's illegal copy because i have the product key from him and it works fine. the SP3 would not load or is recognized on the install. Since i dont have internet connection it wont update the Service Pack 3

If you have a valid, legal product key, you are fine.
