Okay so I was upgrading my PC, and I put the side prong backwards on the HDD WD 500gb when I was sliding it back in its slot and it dropped down hitting the bottom then after DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. So I took it to a store and they told me it was dead and sold me a 750gb seagate so I took it home popped it in and same error I tried installing win 7 on it with USB and it doesn't detect the drive in the installer or cmos/bios my theorys are that something it up with the motherboard or that I need a win 7 installation disc or that I need a new sata cable or a sata to esata to connect externally what do you guys think ?

Solution
Try to reset the CMOS, and yes new cables could do the trick. or try different SATA port. Try to boot with different system, if that doesn't work send the drive back to the store.

I have tried installing win 7 with FAT32 still no drives and I have thoroughly checked the sata cable and power cables and they work fine with the DVD drive I have reset CMOS(took out battery) and I tried installing XP do you guys think I might need a win 7 installation/repair disc(unlikely) ? And should I return the hard drive(not usable) to the store ? And try an external drive(likely to be the solution) Or any other ideas ?

You can't install windows on external drive I believe, try on windows installation disk boot it up and click "repair my computer" > command prompt > diskpart > list disk and see output.

If it doesn't show up in diskpart and neither in bios then you should return the drive.
