Good afternoon!

I have been advised that a great CPU for PC gaming would be the i-5 4440 (http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54440). However I also hear alot of people talking about 8 core processors such as the AMD FX8320 (http://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-fd8320frhkbox).

I was interested in the true difference between these two and does the 8 core processor allow for better gaming performance over the quad core? If so, why is the 8 core processor that also has higher GHz less expensive than the quad core? Again, I am looking for a CPU that is best for gaming purposes. Thank you very much for your responses!

Intels are much faster than AMD chips on a per core basis. Also, most games currently don't take advantage over 2 cores, with 4 cores being the sweet spot. An Intel i5 CPU is better than its i7 big brother for gaming as a result due to generally higher clocks. AMD unfortunately completely lags in comparison; regardless in core count.

If you don't plan on overclocking, the i5-4690 is your best bet. For overclocking, the i5-4670k.
