Xbox One vs. Budget Gaming PC

With the Xbox One at a huge discount ($350), it is a very good contender when it comes to gaming systems. However, gaming PC's are almost always the way to go. Thing is, I only have about $400 to spend, and I won't be getting any more for a while. I know that it is easy to build PC's with a limited budget, but I also need an OS, which would hit the system hard. What do you all think? Would I be able to build a *decent* gaming PC for only $300? Keep in mind that I don't care about running games at ultra 1080p. Low and medium settings are fine for me as long as the frame rate is above 45fps.

It really just depends.

Im seeing a lot of talk about game developers capping there fps to 30 on consoles. Personally I see a HUGE difference from 30-60 regarding how smooth the game not only looks but feels. But if your happy with 30 fps thats fine, i dont have your eyes

Also Consoles are hardware locked, so if your disk drive fails or your hard drive dies 1-2 years after you bought it, your screwed (unless you bought an extended warranty). recently my Xbox 360's disk drive died, it was about 5 years old and was expected but having to spend another 200$ on top of the 400$ i originally paid for it was just not really worth it (but any price is worth it for HALO)

My opinion is to save your cash and plan out a decent set of hardware...

to tell the truth the console is better in the low budget realm if your ONLY concern is gaming. i say this for one reason. the low budget pc is skimping now and makes lots of compromises that will only get worse and worse as time goes. the console on the other hand actually gets better with age as the developers learn how to better optimize to the new system. look at the xbox 360 and games look a lot better and play better now than when the system came out. a budget pc does not age well unless your dedicated to upgrading it every couple of years at a minimum.

even some of the other pro pc arguments such as netflix, youtube and lots of other internet services are included with consoles now. blueray, net services, hdmi, ages well, and price make the console very attractive to pure gaming on a budget.

just my thoughts anyway.

My opinion is to save your cash and plan out a decent set of hardware to build a PC, I only spent about 400-500$ on mine and was extremely happy with the performance compared to any console. Look out for deals on new-egg, tiger direct and your local micro electronics store. i scored a few bundle deals like mobo/cpu=200$ and case/coolers 75$ ETC

And the when Any of your hardwares dies or is "out of date" you can simply buy a replacement or an upgrade and install it yourself and not have to go through all the nonsense with sending it away to japan to get your console repaired and praying it will come back in one piece. There are tons of tutorials out there on how to install hardware and is mostly easy

Hope this helps you out

For someone saying that will always prefer playing with 60fps, I wonder what kind of games and graphics you play in your 400-500 bucks pc :/

Pretty much anything from 2000-2013. Recently I've been having to lower settings to med-low for Newer Games, alphas and betas. will have to upgrade GPU in the coming years but you cant do that with a console

You cannot build a decent pc for gaming for less than $600. The cheapest one I have ever seen was about $615 with OS monitor and peripherals. I would start saving up some more money before you attempt to build.

Thanks for the response! Since I have been a console gamer my whole life, I am very used to 30fps and don't find it bad or distracting (obviously 60fps is much better, but I am perfectly content with 30). Sadly, I won't be getting any money soon so saving up isn't an option. I also just learned though that a couple friends are getting an Xbox One for Christmas so that helped my decision a lot. I am going to get a gaming PC eventually, just not that soon probably (parents don't want me spending too much at a time). Again, thanks for the response!
