Ok, so this is my first time using Tom's Hardware, and also my first time building a computer. I've spent a while searching for cheap yet powerful components as I am on a budget, roughly $1000.

Right now, I have chosen most of the equipment I want except the GPU.

CPU: AMD FX 6300 Black Edition
CASE: Rosewill Challenger ATX Mid Tower
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB
HD: WD Blue 1TB
PSU: Corsair Builder Series CX 500W
OD: Asus 24x DVD Burner
MB: Gigabyte GA-970-DS3P
Monitor: AOC G240PQU 24" 120Hz
Mouse: E-3lue Mazer Type-R
KB: Inland USB Gaming Keyboard

The main thing that I'm missing is the Graphics card and I was thinking I would go with the Gigabyte R9 290 GDDR5- 4GB. Since I'm new to this, I have no idea how the whole compatibility thing works, and am unsure if this card would be compatible with the rest of my build. I assume so, since the motherboard is Gigabyte and so is the card.

This post is mainly to help me find a good graphics card, and I probably didn't need to post my whole build for that, but I would also like anyone to just take a look at what I've chosen and maybe tweak it or tell me of a cheaper unit that basically does the same thing. I'm new, as I've said, so any input is welcome.

Also, this computer is mainly for gaming, and needs to be able to run high-performance games at 1080p or more with several mods installed. (I have over 100 Skyrim mods and my current laptop isn't cutting it)

Thanks!
-Peter

Sorry, it's the 6300 ( I assume it's the CPU you are referring to) I updated it in the OP.

Ok I would recommend dropping the GPU too a 280x and get an i5 in your build. it will be a much better investment in the future.

The i5-4690K 6MB is a bit more expensive and has very similar specs to the 6300. Are you sure the i5 would be better?
On PCPartPicker, when I try and add the i5, it won't show up through the compatibility filter, however, the 6300 does.
Also, if I downgrade to the 280x, will I still be able to run very demanding games at high graphics levels?

I excluded MIR's just incase you don't use them, I couldn't find the monitor, keyboard or mouse so I put in some recommendations of my own, I know the monitor isn't 120Hrz but You can get so much better performance in the build if you drop down too a decent 60Hrz 1080p monitor. I have a feeling that you forgot too change the motherboard and thats why tou were getting an error message. I don't know how you feel about the case but I saw it was cheap and it's a really nice case I use it in my build.
