I have bought the Maximus VII Hero motherboard and noticed that it says 8.1 ready. This just means that it is compatible with Windows 8.1 right? Also if I buy Windows 8.0 will I have to do anything special with board?

Thanks!

Solution
Yes when it says Win 8.1, Win 8, Win 7 or Vista ready it means that that OS is guaranteed to work on that board.

No there is nothing special needed to be done if you use an older OS.

Thanks for the quick response. I have heard rumors that when downloading Windows 8 or any OS from a computer into your flash drive in return you can get viruses installed onto your new computer. How true is this?

Absolutely false. You need to download the OS directly from Microsoft to prevent what you have been told. The only way for this to happen is if you are getting the OS from a different web site than Microsoft's. They have free downloads of the OS on there web site but you need a code to activate the OS.

Thanks for the quick response again. So in my situation, I am building a new computer and it has no optical drive. So inorder for me to get windows 8 I have to buy the disc then transfer it to a flashdrive, right?

No actually. you can purchase the code from Microsoft on there web site and then directly download it to a USB drive, Obviously on a different PC, and then install it on to your fresh build by setting the flash drive as a boot device in the BIOS.
