Windows 8.1 metro apps start to open and then immediately minimise.

I have done quite a bit of goggling on this problem but have not been able to find a solution.
But I have found that plenty of others have experienced the same issue.
When the apps minimize their icon shows in the task bar, but they are not really open because if you type Cntrl/Alt/Delete and then open the Task Manager they don't show as being running apps.

We badly need a solution to this problem. Come on Microsoft, please!

Make sure the All Applications Packages group has the Read permissions to the following registry paths listed above you can left click permission on each of this paths in regedit.

Subsequently I have discovered that mostly the problem can be fixed just by uninstalling the offending app and then reinstalling from the Store.
