So i got a treat for my self a ASUS GTX 980 and as i was wondering what are some good idle temps, and also why is only one fan spinning ? I watched a review and he had the same problem he fixed it but he did not mention how, is it ok if i dont do anything about it or should i do something, thanks !
When i added it to my PC first and turned it on it had like 50 in Celsius which in my opinion was horrible so i made the default fan speed on 40% its not that loud and its not over heating now its idling in about 38 in Celsius. And if i turn it on auto its like 55 in Celsius and thats too much in my opinion. Would i be fine with it running always on 40 % load on the one fan thats actually spinning or should i set it to automatic when playing games ?

Fan power is pretty negligible... Not sure what PSU you're running, but if it's 80+ certified, you should notice very minimal differences in wattage use due to the fan. The card consumption far outweighs the fan expenditures for a day.

I as well normally think that 50-60 is a temp that you want to stay away from, but these cards are actually designed to idle at around 60 degrees. They can take the heat and are not affected by it. Alternatively, you can set a fan profile (which is what I did) to keep it at a lower temp.

As for the single fan, that may be a thing Asus does to reduce noise and power draw, I'm not sure. Take time to look up the issue online.

Idle should be ~40-50°C. 80°C is typically when the card will throttle (79°C Nvidia factory). Get a GPU monitor program and keep an eye on the voltage to see if anything is out of the ordinary; high voltages will make it hotter faster. Honestly, under load, anything under 60°C for this card should be fine.

As far as the fan goes, it could be a board issue, driver issue, or GPU monitoring program isn't turning it on until it reaches a certain temp. Many factors for that one, but that should help narrow it down... If it's bad board or cabling I would RMA just to be safe.

Factory settings, or using a GPU program? If you get somthing like EVGA's Precision X software, you can choose at what temp the fans ramp up and the % speed you want at each mark. Did the second fan start spinning during the test?

Yeah it did start spinning from 65-70 in Celsius.
Will download and setup something on the Precision X software.

Not claiming Precision X is the best or most friendly. Honestly, if Asus has a program, you should go for it since it's their GPU.

They have there own version of Gpu tweak, or its there program i really dont know but im just thinking of setting my fans to to sit at 50% as its not that loud and i cant seem to find a way to just set that the fans dont go below 40% speed.
The second fan turns on somewhere from 40-50% when i set it on the GPU Tweak.

When its set to auto it slowly increases the speed of the fans, but it never went over 30 something. And the temperatures for idle were like 60 in Celsius thats too much for me. Yeah i had a GTX 770 before that and it never went below 40% this one however is weird, i guess its because ASUS wanted it more quiet i think. Now with the 50% it runs on 35 in Celsius which is really nice compared to the 60 i got with the one fan working. One thing i really dont know is how much more power do the GPU fans take is it a lot for me to run it on 50% all the time or is it almost non existing ?

Yeah, your system shouldn't even feel more than a few watts of change.
