I'm looking for a 2 bay hard drive enclosure that has the following- ESATA, USB 3 and gigabit ethernet if possible. I want to be able to use each drive as a single drive each with their own unique name. I don't want RAID I just want a nice tidy box that will hold 2 hard drives.
From what I've been reading JBOD is close to what I want I think. Correct me if I'm wrong but if one hard drive fails they both fail so to speak. Where you lose all the data and not just the one hard drive. I'd rather it be if you lose only one drive that drives information is lost not both. Is there such a thing? Thanks in advance.

If there is could someone recommend some options I'd appreciate it.

JBOD doesn't combine or drives. If you have a 500 GB and a 1 TB you see the two drive seperatly not as a combined 1.5 (Thats what you made it just seem) Again because you want Networking Capability you will need a NAS Box which stands for Network Attached Storage. If you don't care about the networking then something like a Dual Dock BlacX will even do.

You will want to look at stuff like this

Now the whole "Diskless" in the title of some of these just means that they come with no Hard Drives and you have to put in your own. A lot of them if not all support RAID but not all support JBOD which is what you want.
1) The RAID you are talking about is RAID 0 where if one disk fail you lose everything. RAID is NOT a backup! It is designed for Expansion, Redundancy, and Performance.

2) If you want networking then you are looking more for a NAS Box. I don't have time to really look around for you but that is what you are looking for. A lot of them out there support RAID or JBOD. Look around for 2 Bay NAS

Maybe I didnt state it right... I want 2 hard drives in an enclosure that will act basically like as though you had two external hard drives that are placed next to each other and plugged in with two separate wires. I want it to act as though you combined the two into one enclosure so it's just one wire to plug it in to whatever I want. I don't want RAID from what I've read in the description i dont care if 1 fails and from what I've read on JBOD it's two separate drives without a backup solution. correct? But, does it show up on your computer or whatever you're using as two separate drives? So on drive one you have 500 GB and drive two you have 1tb you will have a total of 1.5tb. If you have pictures on the 500 GB drive only and videos on 1tb only you can access both of them from a computer and it shows drive 1 & 2 (pictures and videos) if drive 1 fails you will only lose pictures 500gb but you will still have access to your videos? It's not that you would lose access to both drives just lose your pictures and your video drive will still work fine? I thought I read somewhere that if one drive fails you lose access to both hard drives. just want to make sure im understanding correctly.
