What hardware is making too much noise?

I am kinda afraid what component is making sounds, cause sounds can mean failing hardware.

The sound is usually high on system startup and it goes high randomly when the PC is on.
I fear it could be my hard-disk; and i do not want it to fail again.

How can I find out what component is making the sound? I have Corsair PSU 450W, AMD Phenom X4 955BE, Gigabyte 880GM USB3 motherboard with onboard ati hd4250, and 1 TB WD blue hdd.
I used system monitoring tool but couldn't make any sense out of it.
And I highly doubt if it is my CPU's cooling fan, cause it's sound is different, which can be heard when there's some high processing going on.

I have 2 fans on the cabinet, of which one cannot be seen, cause it's located near the power button. Other is inside the PSU and one on the CPU. I'll try this method.

I'd do it, but is it safe? Won't there be current charge on the components?

Okay, I tried that and it mostly feels like it is the PSU. Cannot be sure since this sound didn't come easily and it is random.
Can PSUs make such sound? If yes then what situation could it be?
