OS: 64 bit Windows 8.1
CPU: i5-2500k 3,3ghz
Motherboard: Intel DZ77SL-50K with up-to-date BIOS
GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 280x 3GB
PSU: 750W

As soon as i install a driver i get some driver crashes and the usual driver restarded message and it will inevitably end in a BSOD telling me an error related to "atikmdag.sys" now being not exactly a tech noob i googled the error with additional details such as my graphics card, ect. i went over a few solutions, updated my BIOS, tryed cleaning all the drivers, reinstalling, reexpanding the .sy_ file and overwriting the old one, installing the latest driver, installing the driver from the cd, installing the 13.11 which was recommended somewhere and i just don't know what do do anymore.

Has somebody dealt with this problem very recently and knows anything beyond the usual solutions to help me? Please ask if you do need any additional information in order to help me.

A few of the Microsoft updates can actually cause the driver to fail, but which I'm not sure. If you have a friend with win8.1 and an AMD GPU take out your HDD and plug it into his and get him to install it. That way it will likely to install, I wouldn't install the driver from the CD, and if you can try download the previous AMD driver not the Omega version as I have heard there's been a few issues with it (I had one but I just reinstalled and luckily it worked xD).

I send the card back, i spent 13 hours trying to get this thing to work without any success whatsoever. I am getting a Nvidia, this is way too much effort for the few bucks you save with AMD.

Did you sweep old drivers before installation/update of new driver? Amd is sensitive to driver installation. Even if you Uninstall old one from control panel you still have to do sweep for some reason. I've been there and I've done that. Sorry you had so many problems with it, but that's amd.

Yes i did that. Yup thats AMD, cheaper for the power but potential complications. Got a GeForce today, plugged it in, downloaded the latest driver, instal, reboot, works.

Well I'm glad you got new hardware. I'm stubborn so I had to figure it out lol. It took me like 2 days but I got it. Enjoy your new card.
