Why does my cpu keep overheating to 90 degrees??

I recently tried overclocking my graphics card with precision X and msi afterburner and everything ran smooth temperature-wise but I wasn't getting a performance boost from overclocking so I set the settings back to default and deleted both precision X and msi afteburner... And now my cpu keeps getting hot easily... Generally the temp is from 50 to 70 degrees while browsing internet and stuff and when I start to play games the temp goes up to 90 degrees...! How can I fix this?? It was never like this before and my comp is positioned in the same position...and if anything, the room is cooler than it was before..Also, my graphics card temperature and everything else is normal temperature...So how can I fix this? Thanks.

Man I hope I didn't damage it by overclocking....! How do you reset the bios?? And I'm not sure which cooler I am using..how can I check??? I'm still kinda a beginner with a lot of this.. :/ And on regular use, my temperature is around 67 degrees and when gaming it's 90! :/ But my full system specs are:

Geforce GTX 780 Ti SC ACX 3GB

16 GB Ram

Intel i7 950 3.07 Ghz

1.36 TB hard drive with a main 74.4 GB hard drive

Has this high temp just started happening? Or have you just taken the time to notice it? The reason I ask, is because that is a rather old CPU, and its thermal paste may have dried out by now with heavy gaming use.
Just to make sure we are all on the same page... you are talking about your CPU temp, not the GPU temp, correct?

Yea it's my CPU temp that's going up to 90 degrees... :/ And I just bought some thermal paste from best buy..Would that fix it?? I have no idea how to apply it but i'm gonna look up instructions... And I thought my CPU was pretty good lol... It runs games pretty good at max settings 1080p.. should I upgrade that soon u think???

How would overclocking his gpu effect his processor exactly?

Your thermal paste could be dried up. That is a fairly old cpu and unless you bought your rig used it hasn't been changed. Are the fan blades on your hsf clean? Are the heatsink fins clean? Do you have at least three 120 mm intake fans and two 120 mm exhaust fans in your case? You need to bring cool air in and expel the hot air or your hsf won't do jack.
