Your spec is good enough already for the next 10 years. BF4 is not really a graphic intensive game. The battlefield series is design to be high frame-rate FPS unlike assassin creed unity or ARMA3.

I would get a 4790K processor.

This is a better power supply for what you are wanting to do:

I would also recommend a 1 TB drive with a small SSD.

Also, you are spending way too much on the case. Why not just get a corsair 450 D? It will fit all those components nicely.

Anyway, overall the build is fine, but you have my 2c.

It depends on what you use your pc for, but it's unrealistic to try and build a pc that's 'future proof'. Trying to place together a build for the next 5-10yrs in the realm of computers is a pipe dream. Technology updates too fast, new versions of software and hardware keep coming out rendering old things obsolete. Look at just the most basic of things like an operating system, was win98 still fully relevant in 2008? No. Maybe for text editing, that's about it.

It's not devaluing your plans for an upgraded pc but you need to have realistic expectations. Computers just aren't something like a house where you get the best of the best and you're done. Even if you had $8k to spend on a pc, give it a few years. It will be outdated, that's just the nature of the beast. In the meantime, upgrade what you can afford and enjoy it.

I disagree. An i7 with a GTX 970 will play games on playable settings for 6-8 years easily. Will it max Crysis 5 on ultra? Probably not. But it will play upcoming games at medium to high (current games on ultra) for many years to come.

It is worth noting though that a 4k monitor will really change performance up. With 2 970s you are fine, but it takes WAY more GPU power, so for future games, you will be limiting your FPS more.

I just bought a U2415 and it's pretty awesome. 1900x1200 16:10 at 24" is really appropriate for the games I play, and it looks great.

Install windows 8.1 and all frequent use software to SSD. basically you boot off the SSD
You may able to just fit BF4 and origin to your SSD if it is 120GB or greater. (i.e. BF4+Origin is around 35GB)
windows 8.1 uses around 50GB and of course you need to add up your windows apps or miscellaneous programs etc.

Other data or softwares to harddrive.

I guess I just don't get the logic that an i7/gtx 970 will play games for the next 5-10yrs. If that were true I'd be playing current titles on my old hd 4850 and p4 northwood because it was high end several years ago. Unless someone has some sort of crystal ball they're peering into, but over the past several years we've seen multiple directx upgrades that leave many cards obsolete. Any attempt to say that because something plays games well now will automatically play new titles 5-10yrs from now is just foolishness. It's not 2018 so why isn't my hd 4850 handling last years titles so well? That's only 5yrs ago. In 2008 (same year as the release of the hd 4850, considered a high end card when it was released) we were at directx 10/10.1 - then we saw directx 11.1 in 2012, directx 11.2 in 2013 and directx 12 is scheduled for windows 10 release. I stand by my statement.

I'm basing this opinion on personal experience. My last two builds 6 years or more each, why would this generation be any different? Developers are conscious of making games playable on slower systems. The current i7s are very powerfull, and the 970 is a great card.

I'm currently running a two year old i5 3570k 4.3 with a gtx 770. I plan to get another 2-3 years out of it easy. I can run BF4 on ultra and it's very playable. So if I can play today's games on ultra, why would I not be able to play next years games on medium/high settings with good fps? Your p4 comment is irrelevant because what is that, a 15-20 year old system?

Time flies man. Think about how long your last build lasted. 5 years is a very reasonable expectation. Not everyone has money to buy a new system every few years. Computer hardware is made to last, and typically a motherboard/cpu combo can last a decade for a non-gaming setting.

And PS 2008 was 6, almost 7 years ago. 2 GTX 970s is a little different than a single 4850. My PC builds historically see 2, and sometimes 3 GPUs before I rebuild the CPU/Mobo. The more efficient sli options of today's word do add to the "future proof" argument, although I personally think GPU and future proof should not be used in the same sentence.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I'm not making accusations against you. I'm just stating my personal opinion (been building my own pcs for around 15 years).
